In the past few days we were able to see few teasers about the Kia GT4 Stinger Concept and finally we are getting images and details from its official launch in Detroit. At this moment this is only a concept but it seams that it is pretty close to production version.
Right from the start of the press release delivered by Kia we were able to see statement that this is only a concept and that there are no plans for this car to be delivered. Slightly later they have reminded us that they do have the history of delivering vehicles that are quite similar to concept models that they have presented. This means that we might be getting first real sports car from this company, we certainly do hope that we will see it.
Kia GT4 Stinger Concept Review
Among those things that we were not able to see and conclude from teaser images is the size of this vehicle. Now we have pretty much all the most important dimensions. Length of this vehicle is 169.7 inches which is few inches longer than Subaru BRZ while still decently shorter than the Hyundai Genesis Coupe with 182.3 inches. Wheelbase is set to 103.1 inch while the weight of this concept is only 2.874 pounds.
We immediately need to add that it is pretty strange to see the weight numbers for one concept vehicle. We are used not to get these information’s which means that this might be one model that really could go into production. With this detail it is possible that we will be getting similar vehicle that will compete with Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S, Mazda MX-5 Miata and similar. According to info this vehicle could offer more power than those competitors.
Let’s talk about engine. We are getting 2.0 liter inline four cylinder turbocharged unit that is also used in Kia Optima GTS racer that competes in the Pirelli World Challenge. This engine brings about 400 hp and for this concept it was detuned to 315 hp. It should be pretty good on performances if it comes in this state of tune and will give this 2+2 rear drive coupe sporty character for sure.
Specs Of GT4 Stinger Concept
Power will be transferred to rear wheels through a six speed manual transmission meaning that it will be quite interesting to drive this vehicle. Pirelli PZero tires are there to keep everything connected to the ground and will need to work hard to tame all that power. Used dimensions are 20 inch while under the center lock wheels are 15 inch discs and four piston calipers from Brembo allowing this vehicle to stop easily at higher loads.
There is no doubt that we will see few changes in case that this vehicle comes to production. Low and exposed headlights would be vulnerable in case of minor accidents and it is a good question if that are DOT complaint. At this moment there is no floor carpet and many LED’s are offered so we do expect few changes here also. There are transparent A pillars that are similar to those we were able to see on Volvo Concept from 2001 and we do not expect to see those.
Even these things are not delivered to the production model we think that the Kia GT4 Stinger Concept is a really good base and if it keeps the most important things like great looks and powerful engine in combination with rear wheel drive it certainly could improve the position of this car maker in segment.
