Japan’s Best Car Magazine recently reported that 2015 Subaru BRZ Turbo will soon be on the offering. This will come as a welcome surprise for performance fans who have been calling for a turbocharged version of the BRZ sports coupe launched in 2012.
The report indicates that the 2.0 liter turbocharged engine will replace the 2.0 liter naturally aspirated unit in the current generation of the sports coupe. Performance fans will enjoy quite a bit more than the 200 horsepower the current 2.0 Subaru Boxer engine offers which offer more spooling and torque on the 2015 Subaru BRZ Turbo.
Performance wise, the 2.0 liter turbocharged Subaru unit sends power to the rear wheels but there could be the possibility of the all-four wheels through its well-known and proven all-wheel-drive. The current BRZ model features a rear-wheel drivetrain design, and naturally, we can expect the new BRZ to outperform its predecessor. The 2.0 Subaru Boxer powertrain is expected to box about 296 ponies, a significant improvement over the current 2.0 engine which came in at 200 BHP. This horsepower is tethered to an eight-speed gearbox with steering wheel paddle shifters. This translates to lower fuel efficiency in new model, as compared to the current model but with optimizations reduction will be minimal and in some conditions it could even offer better fuel efficiency. When the 2015 Subaru BRZ Turbo comes out, its predecessors will not hold a candle against it in terms of performance.
Specs Of 2015 Subaru BRZ Turbo
We assume the 2015 Subaru BRZ Turbo exterior will match the terrific power of the 2.0 powerplant. Reports have it that the car will come equipped with larger alloy wheels, about 18 inches but also with reinforced body kit. All that power must be kept in check, and to avoid losing the back end, Subaru is expected to equip the car with solid back fins. Perhaps Subaru will allow some movement in the rear spoilers to increase down force depending on the speed. The engine will be placed as low as possible in the chassis so as to achieve a low center of gravity. This offers a powerful drive on a car that is supposed to redline at more than 7.400 RPM. We anticipate that the turbocharged BRZ will enjoy Subaru’s famous STI designation, like the WRX STI.
We also need to add that some reports suggested that there could be the 2.5 liter turbocharged unit but this is highly unlikely since this would be one much heavier engine and that could be too much for this small car. In this case we would certainly see more than 300 hp and even that sounds fantastic it would require much more changes to the original car than it needs for 2.0 turbo version to be offered.
However, enthusiasts holding their breath waiting for the new 2015 Subaru BRZ Turbo might end up passing out. No official release date has been offered by Subaru, but we expect the car to hit the market later on this year in Japan, and fashionably slightly later in the U.S. This will most likely at the beginning of the 2015th.
2015 Subaru BRZ Turbo Price
As for the price, the 2015 Subaru BRZ Turbo is expected to retail at around $28,495 since the standard version with naturally aspirated engine comes with a price tag of $25,695. However, the final word of the price is not yet out but since the release date is quite close we do expect to see this information offered pretty soon.
