After 67 years in production we are getting information’s that the Land Rover Defender will not be offered any more and that the production will stop. We had images of concept version that promised we would be getting the 2015 Land Rover Defender model but it seams that there will be a disappointment for many that like off road driving.
All the way back in 1948 this vehicle was delivered as the Land Rover Series while it received Defender badge in 1983. There is no doubt that this is one of the most iconic vehicles in production and for many years it was used to compare with other vehicles in this market segment.
2015 Land Rover Defender Concept
Main reason for this is the global emission regulations that this company could not meet with its vehicles. We were able to see electrified version but that wasn’t enough to save the day. What we could also hear is that there will be a successor to this car but the previous rumors about 2015 Land Rover Defender are most likely far from the truth. Another good news is that the DC100 Concept is not in the game anymore and that the new Defender will not be based on it.
With few changes to the safety regulations for the U.S. market Defender did not manage to comply with those. Land Rover did not want to update its truck to comply with these regulations and since 1998 it is not available in the U.S. We are waiting to see if the new model that will come as a successor to this one will be offered with safety level that will comply with regulations of the U.S. market and if this will allow it to be delivered to the market.
Only limited number of these vehicles is available on the U.S. market and it is pretty hard to see one. Because of this it has a really great reputation and status while it is highly appreciated by both owners and repair shops. It seems that the number will not be changing any time soon and that we will have to wait for the next model to come and to bring some changes.
In the U.S. the Land Rover Defender was offered with 5.0 liter V8 unit while the rest of the world usually received diesel unit under the hood. This is nothing strange since we do know that Americans like gasoline units much more than diesel models and both of those have benefits. Good move for the company would be to also offer diesel version to the U.S. market and this could attract additional number of buyers.
Land Rover Defender Review
For many drivers end of the production and announcement that there will be no 2015 Land Rover Defender is a bad news. Maybe not that much for the U.S. drivers but still there was a decent number of buyers that would be getting this vehicle if it would be possible to get it in the North America.
