Recently we were able to see only small changes delivered for the QX70 lineup and major was the fact that it comes with a new name, instead of the FX badge. Bigger changes that will be offered with 2015 Infiniti QX70 might not be appealing to everyone because the 5.0 liter V8 unit will not be available any more as option.
Looking back few years ago, slightly more than ten, when this model was offered first time to the market it managed to attract a lot of attention and many buyers were interested in the offer of features from this and similar luxury crossovers. At the same time Porsche offered their Cayenne and both of these models proved that luxury crossovers can bring great performances to the buyers.
There is no doubt that we, but also decent number of people wanted to see again 5.0 liter V8 unit delivered with the 2015 model of QX70 but it was a smart decision from the car maker not to offer this engine in the lineup simply because the demand was at low level. Kyle Bazemore, senior manager of communications from Infiniti says that only a small percentage of the sold models were equipped with more powerful and larger engine. This is not all, since the QX70 was the only model that is offered with this unit it was a simple decision to stop with it and significantly lower the expenses.
2015 Infiniti QX70 Engine
Only engine that will be available is the 3.7 liter V6 unit that produces 325 hp which still is more than enough for most drivers. Just as a reminder, the 5.0 unit produced 390 hp which certainly would offer better performances in 2015th model than we will see with the smaller 3.7 unit but there are more than just one benefit of delivering only one engine. Smaller unit is capable of returning 17/24 mpg in city/highway drive conditions while the V8 unit combined with all-wheel drive returns 14/20 mpg in city/highway.
We will always miss the sound of the V8 engine that was truly impressive but with this engine not available in the lineup anymore Infiniti will manage to reduce its Corporate Average Fuel Economy. There are no reports if this car maker will offer any other engine than the 3.7 liter unit in the future but we are more than happy with what that unit has to offer.
Even with less power than before sporty character will be still present and the 2015 Infiniti QX70 will bring many thrills and joys of driving. All the equipment and the features that were reserved for the V8 unit only will be delivered to those models with V6 engines also. Those drivers that want more will be able to choose 21 inch dark finish alloy wheels, paddle shifters, adaptive lighting and similar.
