The 2015 Acura MDX and the 2015 Honda Pilot are both mid-size crossover with a third row seating. These two are quite popular models and the interest of the potential buyers is at high level. Because of this we are delivering comparison between these two vehicles to ease the decision and choice.
Due to the success of the 2014 model, the Acura has not gone through major changes since it is a carryover. The 2015 Pilot on the other hand has received quite a few modifications. The boxy body design is still present but with more curves, everything has been redesigned for more rounded lines. The front face and the side wings of the Pilot have also been redesigned for better aerodynamics. It is largely believed that these modifications were borrowed from the Acura MDX therefore a battle is the only way to determine which car is better.
Comparison Of 2015 Acura MDX And 2015 Honda Pilot
The 2015 Honda Pilot will be powered by 3.5 L V6 engine making 310hp and 265 lb-ft torque. It will also have two drivetrain systems: the front wheel drive system will have 6-speed CVT gearbox and the optional all-wheel drive system will have 6-speed automatic transmission. The Acura MDX on the other hand will be powered by a 3.5 Liter V6 SOHC i VTEC engine with a variable Cylinder Management that will deliver 290 hp and 267 lb-ft torque. Its transmission will be 6-speed automatic. We can notice that the difference in this segment is about 20 hp but that the torque is almost identical which means that engine power will not significantly influence power difference.
Since the 2015 Acura MDX is offered in two versions, FWD and SH-AWD, there is a slight difference in its fuel economy ratings. The FWD is rated at 20 mpg city, 28mpg highway and 23 mpg combined and the SH-AWD is rated at 18 mpg City 27 mpg, Highway and 21 mpg Combined. The exact fuel efficiency rating of the Pilot is not available but it is rumored that it averages at 24 mpg which is almost the same as that of the 2015 Acura MDX. In this category, we can call this a tie because we are not certain of the fuel economy that the 2015 Pilot will bring.
The 2015 Acura MDX is rumored to be released late 2014 therefore we can expect the 2015 Honda Pilot to be released sometime later after the Acura. The Pilot will be available in four different models: Pilot LX starting at $ 30,000, Pilot EX starting $ 32,000, Pilot EX-L starting $ 37,000 and the Honda Pilot Touring starting at almost $ 42,000. The Acura MDX on the other hand starts at a significantly higher $ 42,590 and will go all the way up to more than $ 56,500 for the Advance and Entertainment Package with AWD system.
2015 Acura MDX Vs 2015 Honda Pilot
When it comes to comfort, the 2015 Acura MDX is better suited. It is very spacious with an exotic and beautiful design, but you have to cough out more money to acquire it. Depending on the luxury and comfort level that you looking these two models offer quite different setup. If you want more luxury than you will certainly opt for the Acura model.
The 2015 Honda Pilot produces more power but the outward appearance is still not perfect. The overall winner is therefore the Pilot because it offers all that is needed in a family SUV at a very affordable price. We certainly do hope that one of the next redesigns will improve the overall looks of this car but that it will stay true to the original.
